Home with sustainable features sell for more

Home with sustainable features sell for more

How sustainable is your home? It turns out that ensuring your home is environmentally responsible can have big returns when it comes to selling, thanks to research from the Australia Research Council Linkage project by PRDnationwide in collaboration with Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology Germany, and other industry partners.

The research reviewed three years of sales data and found that sustainable properties don’t just sell for more, but they’re overall better for your finances, your lifestyle and your happiness.

The research found seven top benefits of having a property with sustainable features:

  • Saving on utility bills and maintenance

  • Reduced construction materials and emissions

  • Fewer days to sell the listed property

  • Improved comfort and lifestyle

  • Higher median price

  • Higher resale value

  • Informed decision making

PRDnationwide national research manager Dr Diaswati Mardiasmo, said, “These features not only contribute to improving the price of properties but also decrease the time taken to sell the property.”

Some of the features that perform particularly well include; solar power and heating, Telsa solar power walls, energy efficiency, water saving and reducing mechanisms, architecturally designed to harness natural cooling and heating, sustainable construction materials and high greenery to space ratio amongst others.

Now although farming and food is our wheelhouse, we think it’s pretty fantastic that sustainability is giving eco-conscious home owners a few kickbacks and is encouraging more people to think about improving their home’s sustainability!

Do you have any sustainable features in your home?
